Can one individual plant seeds of change that help improve our city, our region, and our world? Drew Hubbell will present the story of his father’s quest to better our world through community involvement, and the melding of art and architecture. For 65 years, James Hubbell, now 91, has strived to celebrate our region and make it a better place to live. He has never seen San Diego as the end of the road, but rather a gateway to Latin America and the entire Pacific Rim. He fell in love with Mexico – the people and the culture – and aimed to connect the two sides of the border through sculpture, mosaics, and architecture. His efforts have ignited inspiration in schools, museums, residences, and gathering spaces. With the help of many he has worked to create beautiful spaces inspired by sustainable design and traditional Spanish architecture. Today, his passion and vision are sustained by the non-profit Ilan-Lael Foundation, and by Hubbell and Hubbell Architects, a partnership between father and son.
Our lecture will be held in the auditorium at the NewSchool of Architecture and Design in Downtown San Diego at 1249 F Street.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for coffee, snacks, and catching up with old friends. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. A $5 donation is requested.
