Searching for Logic

Catherine Herbst, principal with Todd Rinehart in the San Diego architecture firm of Rinehart Herbst, will share with us her presentation that was enthusiastically received recently in Münster, Germany. “Searching for Logic” explains the philosophy behind her company’s designs and includes many examples of the work that it has inspired.
Rinehart Herbst was included in a 2009 show at the Museum of Contemporary Art celebrating firms “known for their expertise and experience in designing and building spaces appropriate to a location … firms that are redefining housing design, development, and urbanization in the San Diego region and beyond.” LA Times reviewer Christopher Hawthorne described Rinehart Herbst’s work as “smart and hyper-economical.” The company is currently working on modest residential and commercial projects in California, Colorado, and Texas.
Ms. Herbst also serves as the undergraduate chair of architecture at Woodbury University, and she has been a visiting professor at Montana State University and juror in state AIA competitions in Arizona, Florida, and New Mexico.
She earned her Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees at Montana State, worked at various architecture firms over the years, including 11 with Rob Quigley, then, in 2000, co-founded Rinehart Herbst.
