Brad Lenahan, ASLA, will discuss California native plants and their use in commercial landscapes. His presentation will focus on the benefits (perceived and actual) of using native plants, and which species are the most reliable and available. He will also delve into design considerations when selecting species, what a successful native-heavy landscape looks like, how these landscapes are perceived by property owners and users, and how they can be successfully maintained over time.
As a leader of design at GroundLevel, Brad Lenahan brings over 29 years of varied experience with a specific emphasis in educational and office campus environments. Growing up in Indiana, Brad’s interest in design began early with a love of drawing and Legos. This led him to landscape architecture eventually, ultimately receiving his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1995.
He began his career in Texas, had a brief stint in Florida, and ultimately decided to call California home. Brad became an owner of GroundLevel in 2013 and continues to cultivate his passion for planting design using California native species. He lives in Fallbrook and has been able to experiment with various native species on his own property.
As a leader of the firm, Brad has a proven record of guiding complex, design intensive projects from their initial concept design through final construction. He is a great listener with an ability to articulate creative design solutions to his clients. His combination of creativity, technical knowledge, and built-project experience, allows him to design dynamic outdoor spaces at any scale. Brad is a licensed Landscape Architect in Arizona and California and holds an active membership with American Society of Landscape Architects spanning over nearly three decades.
Our lecture will be held in the auditorium at the NewSchool of Architecture and Design in Downtown San Diego at 1249 F Street.
