This lecture explores the origin of Japanese architecture in Nara, Kyoto, Kamakura, and Tokyo, from ancient temples and tea houses to contemporary architecture. Discussing the concepts and historical background in the context of sustainability in architectural design, the lecture also includes a report on the disaster on March 11, 2011 and the lessons to be learned for California’s own preparedness.
