Aging in Place: Residential Design Principles for an Aging Population
January 17, 2009
Boomers are looking for guidance in dealing with retirement options. Many will opt for “aging in place”, but how does one prepare and make changes now that will make it an easy transition for the future? Robert Wright, an award-winning interior designer and principal of Bast/Wright Interiors in San Diego will present a program for Friends of San Diego Architecture on January 17th at 9:30 AM, NewSchool of Architecture, 1249 F Street, Downtown San Diego. His talk will cover not only interior design principles for the interiors of the house but also considerations for exterior residential design.
Wright graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. He has been an active ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) volunteer since the beginning of his career, advancing the interior design profession through knowledge generation and sharing, advocacy of interior designers’ right to practice, professional and public education, and expansion of interior design markets. He was president of the San Diego Chapter of ASID in 1994-1995 and in 2004 he became a Fellow (FASID). In 2006 Wright served as President of ASID.
Wright was chair of the Interior Design Advisory Council at San Diego State University and has been involved with the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS. He is a widely published designer, with work featured in San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles and Interior Design magazines. Wright also has been honored with numerous awards, including the ASID San Diego Chapter Design Excellence Award and the Ethel M. Siegelman Memorial Award for Outstanding Chapter Member. Mr. Wright is currently on the Board of Directors of CIDA (Council for Interior Design Accreditation), the accreditation board for college interior design programs in North America.
