After decades of debate, a sustainable future forMission Valley is at hand. The land along the San Diego River is being rapidly redeveloped as past mistakes are corrected and new uses are introduced.

The Friends of San Diego Architecture presents an update on two of the major efforts – SDSU Mission Valley and the San Diego River Park – and what lies ahead in 2021.

Our panel, moderated by Roger Showley, will feature:
Laura Shinn, director of facilities planning at San Diego State University. She will describe progress to date on SDSU Mission Valley, the 166-acre redevelopment of the San Diego Stadium site into a new campus, with a new Aztec Stadium, housing and commercial development, and public parkland.

Glen Schmidt, principal at Schmidt Design Group, briefed FSDA in February and will return with new images and details on the open space and parkland that will be woven into SDSU Mission Valley and the adjacent section of the San Diego River Park.

Rob Hutsel, president and CEO of the San Diego River Park Foundation, will put the SDSU project into context with the entire 52-mile San Diego River Park and, more specifically, the nine-mile, western stretch from Interstate 15 to Mission Bay.

Join By Computer

  • Close any program on your computer that uses your camera, for instance Skype
  • Have a headset available if possible to minimize feedback – your cellphone earbuds will work well
  • Click this Zoom link and Zoom should automatically and quickly download to your computer
  • Open the program that was downloaded. If it does not open automatically, open the Downloads folder on your computer, click Zoom_launcher.exe. Zoom should direct you to this with a large orange flag
  • If prompted, enter the Meeting ID and Passcode from above
  • Once Zoom has launched, a screen should pop up asking for your name. This will identify you during the meeting
  • You should now be part of the meeting. Click the green button that says “Join Audio By Computer” (by default you will be muted at the beginning of the meeting but can unmute when prompted by the moderator during the Q&A portion of the presentation)

Join By Tablet or Smartphone

  • If you choose to use your tablet or smartphone, be sure to download the Zoom app ahead of time from the app store on your device
  • Once you have downloaded the Zoom app, follow the “Join by computer” instructions above.
