One of the highlights of 2021 was the World Design Organization’s announcement that San Diego and Tijuana were named the World Design Capital 2024 – a first for an American city and a first for a binational region. (home2024.com, wdo.org)
The program offers each capital a chance to strut their stuff in all realms of design and, more importantly, share what they plan to do in the future. The built environment obviously will play a key part in showing the world what the two cities have done and plan to do to improve their architecture, landscapes and the urban scene.
For our kickoff event for 2022, a panel of activists will discuss details of the effort and answer your questions.
The panel will be moderated by Mike Stepner and feature Michele Morris and Carlos Cristiani from the Design Forward Alliance, and Margit Whitlock and David McCullough from the San Diego Architectural Foundation.
Speakers:
Michèle Morris is the associate director of the UC San Diego Design Lab Lab, president and co-founder of the Design Forward Alliance, principal at HardPoint Solutions consulting firm and an instructor at Stanford’s Design School (“d.school”), the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of San Diego, Design Academy and Somersault Innovation.
David McCullough is a principal at McCullough Landscape Architecture. He’s the 2023 president of the San Diego Architectural Foundation (SDAF) and member of the AIA San Diego San Diego Urban Design Committee. He also chairs the city’s Historical Resources Board and is a member member of the city’s Code Monitoring Team.
