David is co-owner and Principal of McCullough Landscape Architecture, a creative design firm located in San Diego, California. His portfolio includes projects of all types and sizes, from large-scale site planning to corporate campuses to small-scale custom high-end single family residential. Some key examples include the Zizhu Purple Bay in Shanghai, China, and locations throughout San Diego, such as The Micro Suites at Alexandria, La Jolla Village Professional Center, Oncosec Medical Inc., and San Diego State University Centennial Mall.
A graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture, David formed McCullough Landscape Architecture in 1999 as a sole proprietorship. In 2001, his wife Catherine McCullough joined the firm. One year later she was Chief Executive Officer and President, thus allowing the firm to become a woman-owned corporation and Small Business Enterprise (SBE), as recognized by the State of California Department of General Services.
As principal landscape architect in his firm, David oversees all aspects of design and production. He serves as head designer on most projects and maintains quality control on all work completed. His firm’s designs have earned recognition in several national publications.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY & METHODOLOGY
David considers his firm as a group of curious dreamers that influence exterior spaces by incorporating thoughtful practices that merge context and creative passion with “grit, soul, and style.” He believes that each landscape tells a story, unveiling a unique narrative that embodies creativity, diversity, discovery, and conservation. David also believes that his firm serves its users with designs rooted in empathy and community, engaging the human spirit in nature.
